April 22, 2012
Today was a very full and blessed day.  Everyone was up before 6am due to going to bed between 8:30-9pm Saturday night.  We were all pretty tired from our plane and car ride.  After breakfast we visited a village (Pascuala)where we dug footers for a new house, played soccer, painted nails and passed out clothing, toys, and food. In the afternoon we traveled further off the main road to a village (Los Mesas)where we stayed for a few hours.  We played soccer, basketball, Frisbee, and Duck, Duck, Goose.  All the girls got their nails painted and everyone was given medicine.  We made a huge pot of food and distributed clothing and toys.  We shared the gospel a few times trusting that God’s word will NOT return void as He has promised.

Nica News 4/12

Today we ended a great week of kingdom building in Somotillo. We began with a devotion by Zach on being workers for Christ. Sheryl, Jason, Nidia, and Dr. Anderson shared their testimonies on the radio followed by a brief prayer by Donald.
This morning most of the team traveled to Pascuala—the village where previous teams had built 21 houses.
Donald preached to them briefly to remind them that blessings follow obedience. Through God’s grace, several families offered to help build more houses, making the list for new houses more than six long. Dr. Anderson handed out medicine to the villagers with severe medical issues, and we also distributed bags of rice to the mothers to feed their families. It was a spiritually challenging but very successful morning in Pascuala.
Afterwards, the team headed to the baseball stadium in Somotillo where we met up with our baseball crew who had been doing final practices and games with the local Little League team. While most of the team was in Pascuala, they organized and led a Little League home run derby and awarded trophies to the winners. They also handed out bats, gloves, and catcher’s equipment to the members of the team.
After lunch, the baseball guys headed back to the baseball stadium while the rest of the team traveled to Los Limones. Dr. Anderson administered medicine, and Lee Anne prepared stew for the villagers. Everyone played games with the children, and we shared the gospel with them. Meanwhile at the stadium, the baseball crew ran a Little League All-Star game and shared the gospel with the players.
It was a very busy and successful week in the mission field. Dr. Anderson administered medicine to hundreds of people, and the team fed even more. The baseball crew made tremendous progress in teaching the children and coaches about baseball techniques. Most importantly, many people accepted Christ into their hearts and seeds for the gospel were planted.

Sarah and Lee Anne started off the day with a devotion reminding us that blessings follow obedience. Then we went to the radio, where Mike, Dave, Greg, and Katie shared their testimonies. The radio was followed by another morning at the city stadium finishing the painting, building relationships, and sharing God’s love with kids through baseball.
In the afternoon, we went to Cayanlipe, where the mission team spent time feeding, playing basketball, jumping rope, and building more relationships. After playing, the students shared the gospel with the people. The men also helped a father and son to bag their corn, which had been drying on the basketball court. Dr. Anderson saw 95 patients, most of whom were babies. Zach assisted Dr. Anderson by passing out medication. Sheryl distributed baby blankets to each of the mothers, and we were blessed to have the exact number of blankets as there were babies in this village. This village appeared to be in more desperate need than were the previous villages that we have visited this week. As usual, on the way to and from the village, we gave out clothing and candy to the people we passed on the road.
Before Mama Maria’s wonderful dinner, the mission team held an impromptu baseball game against a group of children at the stadium. It was a tie, and the game was a great time of fellowship with the locals. Praise the Lord for another great day of kingdom building in Somotillo!

We started the morning with a devotion from Dave that reminded us that God has called us by name to the mission field. Sarah, Lee Anne, and Josh shared their testimonies, and Don preached a brief sermon that dovetailed from Josh’s testimony on the radio. It was a very powerful broadcast!
Then we headed off to the baseball stadium, where most of the team joined members of the Principe de Paz church in painting the stands vibrant green and blue and played with the children. Our baseball crew led the local teams in practice, and many of the players accepted the Lord into their hearts when Dave and Roger shared the gospel with them afterwards. Pam, Dr. Anderson, Katie, and Greg visited a special needs school in Somotillo where they delivered food for the students so that they will have hot meals every day. They also had the opportunity to visit the students and teachers and share the gospel with them.
After lunch, the team traveled to the remote village of La Fragua. Dr. Anderson administered medicine to the residents—the first doctor to visit the village in several years. The men played soccer and football together while the women from the team colored and made bracelets to remind the children of the gospel story that Morgan shared with them. Lee Anne served another hot stew, and then the entire village and team joined in an exciting jump rope marathon that included fathers, mothers, and their children as well as locals and team members participating together. We think the villagers will be laughing about that for a long time, especially since we left the rope for them to enjoy as a community.
We’re excited for another busy and exciting day out in the mission field tomorrow!

We have had a great second day on the mission field! Greg and Katie shared a devotion on having a Christ-like attitude to start the day. Then Zach, Morgan, and Kristen did a great job sharing their testimonies on the radio. When they returned, we went to the baseball stadium in Somotillo, where some of the men worked with the local baseball team. The Nicaraguan players have lots of baseball talent! The rest of the men worked with the members of Principe de Paz church and the Baptist School to clean the stands so that we can paint them tomorrow. It was wonderful to see the North Americans and missionaries working side-by-side. Meanwhile, the girls did crafts and shared the gospel with the children. The local news filmed the action for a news story.
After lunch, we went to the village El Platanal. Dr. Anderson administered medication to over 80 people. The team members played games, colored, and painted nails with the people. Sarah shared the gospel using a bracelet with colored beads as a visual of the message; the children received the bracelets to keep as reminders. Lee Anne, our soup chef, prepared hot stew for the people to enjoy, and we also gave bags of rice to the mothers. God was at work in Nicaragua today, and we can’t wait to see what He does tomorrow. Thank you for your prayers!

Nica News 4/8

Happy Easter Sunday! We were privileged to wake up an hour later than usual, at 7:00, and had breakfast at 8:00 AM. After we ate, we headed down to the baseball field to interact with the kids. Greg and Jason measured up and put in the new permanent bases and home plates that our team brought here. We held a training clinic for little league (ages 6-9) and then separated into smaller groups to share testimonies. Zak, Morgan, Mike, Bill, LeeAnne, Dave, and Josh closed in prayer. Kristen, Sheryl, Katie, LeeAnne and Sarah the Easter story with some of the girls and painted nails as well as handed out some Silly Bandz. Morgan and Kristen played some soccer while Sheryl, Nidia, Sarah and Katie played a few games.
After lunch we headed down to Pajuil where the girls colored and some guys played baseball. LeeAnne helped cook with Don and Jason, and we handed out a bowl of delicious stew to all the ladies, then the boys, like normal. We got to hand out two packages of nutritious rice and corn meal to all the moms. We played a lot of jump rope and there were a lot of people watching and participating! It was a lot of fun. As we were leaving, we threw the kids candy and clothes from the truck.
Tonight Don will be preaching the Easter Story and Katie will be interpreting, we are all very excited for her! It should be a packed church and Principe De Paz as they all know Don will be preaching and it is a special holiday.
            Once, again, Happy Easter!

Nica News for April 5th

Pastor Mike Morris, Cornerstone Community Church
It’s amazing how quickly we can travel around our world. Saturday morning I was in the comforts of my own home, and Saturday night I was in a hotel in Managua, Nicaragua. I’ve spent the last few days working with Because We Care Ministries training pastors in Choluteca, Honduras and Somotillo, Nicaragua. These men are my hereos. They serve as pastors in small villages around northern Nicaragua and southern Honduras. They live a tough life, and nothing about their life is easy. One of the pastors in Honduras had to walk over three hours in order to take a two hour bus ride so that he could be at our 9am pastor training. That’s commitment. The excitement these men have for learning God’s Word is contagious.

I don’t have to tell you how easy we have it in the United States. The poverty and struggle that we see here is humbling. And yet the problems they face in their churches are very similar to the problems we see in the North American church. We are challenging them to serve their communities and to lead with a Holy boldness. Will you join me in praying for these men as they are studying and learning this week.

We return to Managua tonight (Thursday night) as I get ready to return home and Don and Pam await the arrival of the Student Ministry Team from FBC Roanoke, Virginia on Saturday. Then it is back to Somotillo for another great week of ministry

Nica News March 15

Sun goes up, sun goes down, another day on the mission field. This morning started a bit different than the previous few. As goes with technology in Nicaragua, the radio station was incommunicado, but members of the team still had the opportunity to share their testimonies and lead the team in worship within the comfortable air-conditioned walls of Casa de Shelly. After a good time of fellowship and sharing, the team headed out to two schools and the local clinic in Somotillo.
At the first school, the team jumped right out of the truck and went straight to work. We combined the kids from two classrooms and made a station for the man, the legend, Doctor Anderson. With all the kids in one room, team members Jess and Sarah shared the gospel with all the kids and gave them an opportunity to accept Jesus Christ as their savior. Next, the team engaged the kids through numerous activities including soccer, football, jump rope, coloring, and chalk drawings. The kids were sad upon our departure, but it was no fewer than a couple minutes that the team was at it again in another school. Our time was limited, but we were still able to give food to the school teachers and share the gospel again with the children. The team’s next stop was the local clinic in Somotillo. We split into two groups and went around to different rooms praying over the patients and giving them a small bag of caramellos. The team was happy to be able to minister to these people. Back at the Casa, a young two year old boy arrived with an extra finger on each hand and an extra toe on each foot. Doctor Anderson completed the first of four surgeries in removing one of the boy’s fingers and stitching him back up. With the help of Doctor Anderson, he will be normal in no time.
In the afternoon, the team journeyed to the village of San Francisco South. The team was able to engage the kids again through finger nail painting, soccer, jump rope, and coloring. Doctor Anderson was once again hard at work, attending to the medical needs of the people. Sarah redeemed herself in passing out the parasite medication with Cheryl to over 100 of the villagers. The team cooked another hot meal, and it was obviously appreciated as the villagers could be seen flocking to the pot with containers in hand. The team saved their best for last performing a drama and a rap to share the Word of the Lord. The small kids and even some of the adults were entertained while still learning about original sin in a drama and Jesus feeding the five thousand through a rap. Soon enough it was time for the gringos to depart, and the team was at it again distributing resources to the Nicaraguans on the way back to the Casa.
On the team’s last day, they had the opportunity to see the new radio station on top of the Mountain of Prayer. With this new location, the station will be able to broadcast even further giving future teams the opportunity to share their testimonies across an even greater area. The team marveled in God’s creation on top of the building looking out across Nicaragua and into Honduras. Upon completing the steep trek down from the radio tower, with some taking a small tumble along the way, the team ended their journeys through Somotillo.
What a great job team LU and US Naval Academy did in serving the people of Nicaragua and honoring our Lord.
Once more let me remind you to load up and use your BWCM/Kroger gift cards and support the work of ministry here in Nicaragua.
